BLOG POST SUBMISSIONS.

The Undergraduate Politics & Law Journal at Fairleigh Dickinson University regularly publishes shorter pieces in the form of thought-provoking blogs. The topics widely vary but are all written with a legal or political foundation. Blog entries usually run 500-1,200 words.

Please use the following for references on style/approach:

  • Use clear, declarative sentences with little academic jargon or terms of art; if there is a key academic term you must use, make sure you define it briefly. If you say “independent variable” make sure you explain what it is.

  • We are a non-partisan blog; if you write a more opinion-based blog entry make sure you support your position/claims with evidence and arguments.

  • Please feel free to link your claims to relevant research or other articles—including past ULPJ blog entries!

  • Paragraphs should be roughly 2—4 sentences long. For blog purposes, longer paragraphs can be distracting and reduce the “punch” of your piece.

  • Graphics and images are highly recommended but not mandatory. – but let us know what you have in mind and make sure what you are presenting is self-explanatory/can stand on its own (clear labels; easy to read, etc.)

  • Make sure if you use outside sources you explain what these are and how you used them; be accurate and fair in using the arguments of others and use sound practices of citation.

  • Please include a one-sentence bio at the end and feel free to use a hyperlink to your website

If you have any further questions regarding the requirements of the blog posts, please refer to the FAQ section or reach out via email. If you have an idea for a blog entry but want to “pitch” it to us first, please send a sentence or two describing the idea and how you would develop it.
